It has been a long time since I have written a blog post. I won't make any excuses aside from being busy with my 4-year-old, who is about to become a 5-year-old in a week's time. I have also had some technical issues that I won't bore you with for the most part.
My biggest technical headache has been in dealing with changes made to my website (I should say "former website") by its host. I still own the name "TinySafari [dot] com" and it is still up there in cyberspace as I type this post, but I am unable to make any changes to it... and I am not sure I will know about any orders that I might be getting... except for the fact that I did change the email address with paypal, so I think they would notify me of any activity.
I have been trying to figure out how to get people who have typed in that web address to be transferred here to the blog site or to my etsy shop. I still can't figure it out. I am still working on it, though. When I talk about this being a headache, I actually mean full blown MIGRAINE! And I have one right now.
I will keep you informed of any additional changes, but in the mean time, please place your orders with me directly or via my etsy shop.
Sincerely,
Lesley Carter

Easter Stuff
I've been busy with Easter stuff. I practised on something for Maxwell...
...made a revision, then stitched these out.
I think they are cute!
I made coordinating shorts...
...that I lined, because I thought the outer fabric was too thin. The lining fabric was an incredibly soft white muslin. (I want a nightgown made out of this fabric!) The shorts were made of blue pinstripe seersucker and red gingham.
And a pair of super cute, lined, pink pinstripe bloomers for the little girl with another coordinating t-shirt.
I also stayed up very late during the week working on this Easter basket liner. My friend wanted the one from Pottery Barn, but they sold out early. She asked if I could make one. "Sure!" is my usual response to that kind of question.
The basket she brought me was not the typical style of basket for a liner, which posed an interesting challenge. The wide part of the basket is where the handles emerged, in this case. In a typical basket with an embellished liner the handles emerge from the narrow end. This basket was also a little chunky with chunky handles. I should also note that it was a beautiful basket!
First, I came up with the embroidery design using royalty-free clip art and Times New Roman font. I also used a new product (Sulky Puffy Foam) to give the design some dimension, since it was fairly simplistic.
I am probably not the first to come up with this idea for a basket liner, but I did come up with it all on my own. The outer part is a complete "skirt" where you would normally see ties around the handles. The opening to make this one removable is on the inside. I had originally intended to add some Velcro but didn't in the end. I didn't think it was necessary in this case. (BTW, the liner is also lined.)
I was very pleased with the result, and if it didn't say "Will", I might not have parted with it. As it is, Maxwell's response to seeing the basket for the first time was, "Are you going to make one for me?" He can read well enough now to know that it said a name that wasn't his.
I do have an Easter basket for Maxwell. In fact, it is the first Easter basket that I am doing for him. (My mom and sister have done all his previous Easter baskets.) Unfortunately, it doesn't have a personalized basket liner. But I am sure he will be just as happy with it. I will be certain to do a nice basket liner for him next year!
Happy Easter, y'all!

When I was visiting my mom recently, I went into an independent sewing shop in Lafayette and saw a t-shirt with a pocket that looked like a purse. I reinterpreted this idea into my Purse T-Shirt. The pocket idea was cute, but not very functional, so I did away with that and just designed (and digitized) an applique that looked like a purse. I had to monogram it, of course! And then I added the decorative trim up the shirt, around the arm, and back to the other side of the purse to make it look like the little girl is actually wearing a purse!

Embroidering Towels
I braved towels last week. I have had five towels to monogram/ personalize for almost a month, and I was a little afraid of the process. I did a lot of research beforehand and once I understood what I would have to do, I aquired the necessary supplies....
... and finally got to it.
I think they turned out well.
Maxwell wants a beach towel with a crab on it now.
The bows on the flipflops really make them POP (as they would say on all those design shows)! The ribbon is secured well to the towel, and the ribbon ends are heat sealed for durability.
What do you think?

T-Shirt Dress
Here is my first attempt at the t-shirt dress that I made a couple of weeks ago. I have had some requests to make this dress monogrammed. Because of the gathers on the t-shirt in the sample dress, I can't monogram this one. I will be making this dress with a simple, girly t-shirt from now on that can be monogrammed. Curlz or a simple script would be very nice fonts on this dress. The size 4T sample is for sale for $17. The dress made to order in your size will be $20 or $25 if monogrammed. Shipping, if necessary, is extra. I'll figure it for you if you like. Just let me know.
A-Line Dress with Tulle (tutu) Trim
Last week I went to visit my mom in New Iberia, LA, for a few days while my husband went to England for his mother's funeral. I had an opportunity to go to some fabric stores that we don't have in Jackson. I went a little overboard on Disney Princess fabric... not something I normally would do since I try to stay away from licensed characters (and the legal issues associated with selling things with licenses characters).
Anyway, I made this dress. It is a completely reversible a-line dress with ties at the shoulders than can be adjusted (by retying them) and a cute, princessy tulle trim at the bottom. On one side of this dress is a very pretty blue background with the princesses. This is my favorite side, but I am sure the little princesses out there will prefer the pink side. I also made this as a tunic with bloomers. I haven't completed the bloomers yet, but will post a picture of them when they are done.
This is one of those posts that just shows what I am up to since I am already out of these fabrics. (Two lucky pricesses out there have Moms who have already claimed the available dresses.) But I do have a blue Cinderella fabric that is very nice, and I saw something the other day that I can get something to coordinate with it. Let me know if you'd like to see that.

My first blog post
I have decided to start a blog to share what I am up to creatively. Please bear with me while I get this set up. (The Google Design Template doesn't seem to be working today.)
I create gorgeous things for girls and boys, both human and canine. Please subscribe to my blog if you want to keep up with the new things I am offering. You can see a small sampling of what I have for sale in my Etsy shop and at TinySafari.com (which is a little outdated). You may also send me a direct request if you want to have something made for you, since I don't have everything I sell listed on Etsy.
Thanks!
Lesley
